Today Kestrels opened their season with a convincing victory over Peterborough Phantoms. The first period started tight but Kestrels dominated possession and shot count. Rob Gaze in the Phantoms goal making some fantastic saves.
Finally they opened the scoring when Matt Woollias found some space in front of the net and flicked it past the Phantoms netminder (1-0).
The second period started with Kestrels pushing forward. Matt Woollias intercepted a loose puck and skated through slotting the puck past the netminder (2-0).
The next goal saw Matt Clarkson hit one into the net assisted by Simon Berry (3-0). Then Matt Coleman found some space in front of the Kestrels net and hit a quality shot into th back of the net (3-1).
However the Kestrels kept pushing and Matt Woollias slotted a back hand pass through to Matt Clarkson and he slotted it away (4-1). The third period began with Kestrels continuing to push and then Matt Clarkson hit a thunderbolt into the net making the game settled 5-1 finish. MVP went to Dean Lahan for Kestrels and Matt Coleman for Phantoms.
