The Kingston Kestrels clinched the league title with an 11-3 victory over the Manchester Mayhem!
Report: Matt Woollias
Mayhem are considered a “bogey” team by the Kestrels and the game was expected to be a tight affair. However the Kestrels calmed any pre-match nerves within 4 minutes when Fitzgerald opened the scoring. A couple of minutes later, the prolific Clarkson scored to make it 2-0 and then Woollias flicked a tame shot towards goal that crept in to make it 3-0 with less than 8 minutes gone! The scoring didn’t stop there; Berry scored a longer ranger, 26 seconds later Clarkson scored again and then the punishing combination of Woollias and Clarkson (scorer) made it 6-0 at the end of period 1. Mayhem were shell shocked and the Kestrels were cruising!
Period 2 began much tighter with Nicholson and Booth rallying the Mayhem troops and pushing the Kestrels closely. However 2 more goals followed and the score was now 8-0 (Clarkson and Woollias) but the Kestrels became complacent leaving no one back and Nicholson broke away to make the score 8-1 at the end of period 2!
Period 3 began and Mayhem were the better team but Clarkson scored on the break for Kestrels 9-1! Phoenix then scored through Nicholson again 9-2! However the Kestrels then stepped it up a gear again and Morris scored his first ever Para Ice Hockey goal 10-2! This was followed by a goal through Booth 10-3 and then Clarkson scored again to make it 11-3. Kestrels clinch the title in emphatic style. Can they finish the season unbeaten? One game left away at Mayhem, who will be looking for revenge after the mauling they received!
